My Story

Prickly Pear Studio was founded in 2021 in Dover, Delaware. The focus of Prickly Pear Studio is customer experience, health, happiness, and finding the best ways to meet your beauty needs while keeping the environment in mind.

My name is Yulissa, I’m originally from a small town in northern Illinois. My journey in the beauty industry all started while serving in the United States Air Force. I was stationed in Germany for my first assignment and had a very difficult time finding someone who could thread eyebrows as well as body waxing. This lead to teaching myself the art of threading. Within my first year of the military I was sent on my first deployment in 2017 where I waxed others eyebrows with a small kit I took myself. After Germany I was sent to live in the wonderful city of Dover Delaware. Here I was tasked on another deployment in 2019 and was able to thread eyebrows on sand covered chairs and picnic tables. I always knew I wanted to help people in one way or another and these encounters helped me find my passion. After Separating from the Air Force in June of 2020 I looked into schools to start my new career. I attended the Delaware Institute of Cosmetology in September 2020- February 2021. After graduating I continued my education by taking classes on sugaring and permanent makeup. I believe there is a way to meet our beauty needs while still thinking about our beautiful planet.
